Unified communications systems blend networks, systems, and business applications, which improves how employees collaborate and communicate in virtually every aspect of a company. From synching meeting notes to closing a big deal, the benefits of UC systems are extensive. Furthermore, they are critical for success in the modern world of business. However, in order to maximize these benefits, you must have an updated, streamlined system that is running smoothly. The following details some of the most prominent indications that you’re running an obsolete system and how to fix them:

1. Outdated Software

Outdated software doesn’t offer the newest features and can slow down performance. When was the last time that you talked to your UC provider about potential upgrades? If it’s been more than six months, there are likely upgrades available. If you’ve been battling with a buggy, slow system that has features that don’t meet your needs, talk to your provider today.

2. Wires and Cabling

Once upon a time it was commonplace to see myriad numbers of wires running all over the work place. From small start-ups to large corporations, it was something that you couldn’t avoid if you had phone, fax, and computer systems. The newest UC systems have minimal cabling and wiring requirements. With a limited number of cables and wires, you don’t have to worry about safety hazards or the logistics of keeping so many devices wired together properly.

3. Lack of Network Monitoring Services

Deploying a UC system involves more than hooking up some telephones and enabling network instant messaging. Unified communications networks require a wealth of other services including traffic, component, and packet level monitoring systems. The bottom line is that you cannot invest in UC and expect your teams to start collaborating overnight. In order to reap the maximum returns on a continual basis, you need ongoing monitoring and assessment. It may seem like a large investment, but it will be well worth the money.

4. Missing Mobile Services

Mobility is arguably the most critical feature of UC right now. Employees need access to enterprise mobility to extend UC capacity beyond their desks. Whether you are working from home, checking your work messages in the airport, or engaging in screen sharing during an off-site meeting, you need to have reliable access.

5. Manage Potential Growth

Managing business growth can sometimes be demanding. You need to get a UC system that is a good fit for your organization, which includes where you’re heading in the next five or ten years. Committing long-term to a single support vendor or hardware provider can play a role in your total cost of ownership (TCO) or return on investment (ROI) for years to come. Look for solutions that offer flexibility with room to grow beyond your current package and with access to cutting edge technology such as razor sharp video streaming and a wide range of hybrid and cloud options.

If you are running an obsolete system don’t sweat it! With the help of your IT Director, together you will be able to develop a new and improved system.
